Question of the Day #55

I woke up coughing at 4:30 AM. Then my brain started spinning worry. I tossed around. Tried to think happy thoughts. Instead, in my mind, I wrote chapters, cleaned out closets, donated clothes, sold stuff on ebay, searched for work, redesigned my garden, painted my trim, scrubbed my floors, finagled finances, begged the universe for peace, tried to picture calm (whatever that looks like) and eventually gave up and got dressed.

There's got to be a better way to deal. What do you do when you can't sleep?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. That's one problem I don't seem to have for the most part. Thank you universe! Last time I had a minor bout with sleeplessness I think I listened to an audio book.

  2. I think about winning money… lots & LOTS of money. I think about what I would do with it, who I would help (your mortgage would be taken care of by the way) & where I would live. I design my homes, organize elaborate family trips and girlie weekends. I become bi-coastal (not to be confused with bi-toastal ;)) so Lucy & I can enjoy a SoCal summer and so she can get to know her “aunties”. I know this sounds crazy & materialistic but it works for me…otherwise I would worry and dread. I hope you had a great Christmas!! Love & miss you!!

  3. Math.

I try to figure how many days it would take, if I stuck to my diet, to get to my goal weight. Move the rate of loss with the corresponding decreased weight, and I'm always out cold again before I can come up with the final answer.

  4. If I can't fall asleep within 15 minutes, I get up. I write, I read, I clean my desk, I pay bills... If I start feeling tired I go back to bed or the sofa. Or I keep going until the family is up and wish I could accomplish that much on a regular basis!

  5. I make up stories. Sooner or later the story rolls into a dream.

Or I get up. Unfortunately, I usually regret that later when I can't keep my eyes open.

  6. I imagine I'm playing baseball- and in my imagination I'm very successful, hitting every pitch. But usually that doesn't work so it's Ambien to the rescue... -Michael

  7. I toss and turn, and then later in the day take a nap if I can! :0) I'm awakened in the night so many times between the kids and dogs it's just another night...

  8. I put the A&E verison of Pride & Prejudice (6 hours long) in the DVD and fall fast asleep on the couch. I've seen it so many times, I have it all memorized. Not sure why it puts me out right away as I love it, but it just does. Comfort viewing, I suppose.

When it's something aching to get written though, I get up and write it.

  9. Put socks on. If socks are already on, take socks off. That usually does the trick!

  10. I woke up this morning at 3:30 and after an hour of thinking and tossing I finally got up and turned on the computer. At 5pm I got back in bed and watched I Love Lucy. Finally, at 6:30am I decided to just get up instead of waiting another half hour for the alarm.
