Question of the Day #277

This weekend is the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) annual summer conference. It's held in LA every year and over a thousand writers, illustrators, editors and agents gather to learn about what's going on in children's publishing, network and meet blogosphere friends in person.

It wasn't financially possible for me to go this year and I'm totally bummed about it. All weekend I've been wondering what's happening. Who met who. Who said what, etc.

I feel like I'm totally missing out.

What do you feel like you've missed out on?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. The same thing! I've been having fun reading others' blogs about it, but I wish I could be there!

  2. Reading the blogs about it may be the closest thing to being there. Just shoot for next year. Sometimes we find that we end up feeling more prepared if we wait another year.

  3. Too many things to list! But I do have an equally long list of things I didn't miss out on!!

  4. I rarely feel like I've missed out on things. I have this belief that if I am meant to be somewhere, I will be.

Although I do remember in '99, missing seeing one of my favourite authors, Timothy Findley, at the Chateau Laurier. He died soon after, so sadly, I will never have the chance to see him again.

  5. So sad I'm not the only one who's missing out on the conference. They're blogging live if you guys want to peek in like me...

  6. And we're missing you!!! I wrote a nice long blog tonight, recapping today and yesterday. But I know what you mean about the money thing. My tuition price this year was actually a gift from my mom. It sucks not being able to afford anything ourselves! Lately I miss being able to go out to dinner, even though we weren't that extravagant about it in the first place. : (

  7. The same, I suppose. Also, a concert I would have liked to have seen, but didn't get to.

  8. I feel like I'm missing out on the excitement in the air, the vibes that occur when a whole bunch of people with the same passions gather. I am missing the connections I'd like to make with other kidlit people, especially those I "know" from the blogosphere.
