If you could rename yourself, would you?
I would not. I think my parents did a lovely job naming me and "Suzanne" and "Suzie" really seem to fit me. But there are some people who don't like their names. I've often heard people say, "I wish I'd been named something else."
Just wondering...
xoxo,
Suzanne
I was a tomboy and Sherrie just seemed too prissy a name. My middle name is Michelle so for a while I called myself Mitch. I also went through a phase of signing my papers in 8th grade "Scrooge." (Don't ask!) When I worked at school it was strange to have children calling me "Mrs. Petersen." Doesn't that sound old? These days the name I answer to the most is "Mom!"
ReplyDeleteYes, I would make my maiden name become my first name (everyone calls me by that anyhow!). I hate my name, and these days everyone has the same name or some variation of it.
ReplyDeleteNo, I love my name!! But I'm not very attached to my last name, good thing I'll get to change that some day.
ReplyDeleteI think my parents did a great job naming me and my siblings. I like my name very much - it's feminine and popular without being TOO common. And, in my life there has never been another Rebecca in either school, work or friend situations. Oh wait, I take that back...for a brief time there was another Rebecca (with the same last name if you can believe it!) in my company but she got married and changed her last name. I also like my nickname very much... but please don't ever call me Becky.
ReplyDeleteMy name was supposed to be Elizabeth but Stephanie was the trendy name of the time. Guess what my sister's name was? Jennifer! My mom was big into trends.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked the name Macie, but I liked it BEFORE everyone was naming their kids that! I like Brooklyn... The good thing about being a writer is, I get to name characters over and over. It's not even like having a child and naming it. That's just a one-shot deal (or two or three if you have more children). Every few months, I get to pick new names.
I've always liked my name, but in elementary school I was jealous of best buddies with the same names. I never did have a classmate with my name.
ReplyDeleteI wish they named me, Biff Constantinople.
ReplyDeleteI've never liked my name. I have a 1st cousin with the same exact name (well, we've both married but whatever). 1st name, middle name and last name. Ugh. We lived 2 towns from each other growing up. Confusing, yes. And since my name is Lisa Marie I recently asked my mom if she had some nutty crush on Elvis. Her word exactly, "What would ever make you think I had a crush on Elvis?" Really Ma?!
ReplyDeleteI like LD. And Lisa D isn't too shabby. Just don't call me Lisa. Ooh...sends shivers up my spine.
I've always liked my name. (even though it does rhyme with Smelly...and my parents used to call me Smel on a regular basis!)
ReplyDeleteI like my name too. My father used to tease me that he wanted to name me after him. That meant I would have been Edmunda! OMG! That be bad:)
ReplyDeleteI am pretty happy with my name since my mother was in love with Gregory Peck. There are worse people to be named after.
ReplyDeleteFor ages, I wanted to be a Carolyn, just so I could have the option of going with the nickname or the full name. Plus, the prom jokes get REALLY old after a while when you're a Carrie. But now I like my name.
ReplyDeleteMy name is perfect for me, right down to the spelling. I don't even think of Christine as the same name as mine. And don't even think about calling me Kris or I'll respond "TINE!"
ReplyDeleteI've always liked my name -- it's one of the few things I got from my dad, and since he died before I was 2, it means a lot to me. Plus, he & I have the same middle name -- Jean/Gene. Great question!
