This might seem like an odd subject (Because most of the things we ponder here are so normal, right?) but I've been thinking a lot about rice.
I never make rice as a side dish for myself. In fact, the only time I eat it is in sushi or with Mexican or island food.
But the people I cook for are rice crazy. If I'm serving up steak and potatoes, they still want a batch of rice.
So, I'm wondering, what kind of role does rice play in your diet?
xoxo,
Suzanne
We used to eat it all the time when I was growing up, but I wound up marrying a guy from a family that favors potatoes, so now I only make it once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteMy situation is the exact opposite of Ara's.
ReplyDeleteI was raised on potatoes. My wife has 100 different recipes for rice and served it with everything. It was only a matter of time before we had rice with rice. (She did it as a joke.)
I think everyone should read a book by someone named Rice every week.
Coming from the Caribbean and having Puerto Rican relatives, rice is a main staple, eaten at least once a day, if not twice. It keeps a long time in a container where a potato won't. I eat rice at least once a week.
ReplyDeleteI probably make rice as often as I make potatoes...but not together. My family loves cheesy rice with broccoli.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite breakfast (or lunch) is leftover cold brown rice with raisins, walnuts, chopped apple, fat-free vanilla yogurt and cinammon.
Each week we balance out what I call our starches: potatoes, pasta, rice, and bread. We eat rice usually once maybe twice a week, either as a side, or in soup. And definitely once in a while when we eat it at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant.
ReplyDeleteA day late, but I have to chime in. I love rice, particularly brown rice. I can eat it plain with butter or embellished with stir fry veges or slivers of meat. My daughter loves omlettes of rice, feta and spinach.
ReplyDeleteBut I alternate with days of baked potato or penne but never together. I don't stray too far from my favorite starches. :D
Rice is cheap, I eat it all the time! It is filling too! I eat a serving a day, probably. I will make it twice a week and just put in the fridge to warm up for the next few days. ReplyDeleteI don't eat it anymore since going low-carb. I did have a little recently when we had Chinese, but for the most part I don't eat it regularly. (Love it though)
