So last night, H and I were channel surfing and stopped on Eddie and the Cruisers. How could we not? I remember, as a kid, being completely infatuated with Eddie and also thinking Joanne was supercool.
But last night, it felt like we were reading a script.
SUMMER 1963
INT. EMPTY BAR - Lone barkeep sweeps floor as Eddie and The Cruisers enter through front door, one by one. First Eddie, then Joanne, Sal, etc. Barkeep stops sweeping and peers at the strangers. A silence holds the room as Eddie and the Cruisers stare down the barkeep.
BARKEEP
Can I help you?
Eddie nods at Sal.
SAL
Yeah. We're Eddie and the Cruisers.
The bandmembers smirk and chuckle knowingly.
That movie may have been intoxicating at 13, but at 38, it was BAD.
What movie do remember enjoying in your youth that turned out to be not so great as an adult?

Happy late 28th birthday! Point Break, Patrick S. (R.I.P.). Not so good now...
ReplyDeleteClash of the Titans...YIKES!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Eddie and the Cruisers! I LOVED that movies. I actually saw John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band in concert and John Cafferty gave me a high five. My 10-year old self almost fainted.
ReplyDeleteThe other movies that come to mind are Desperately Seeking Susan and Purple Rain.
Hmmm...maybe musicians from the 80's should have steered clear of film.
Teen Wolf.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry but - Karate Kid.
"And we have the Cruisers....for the nasty stuff."
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the movie but that cd was good. I still listen to it once in a while.
That happens to me all the time! It makes me cringe. I see it in books, too. It's why I never re-read books; if I first read and loved it years ago, I almost always hate it upon a much later re-reading. I don't know if it's maturity or just that I've had more writing practice and am therefore pickier, but I've learned my lesson!
ReplyDeleteHate to say it, but Sixteen Candles.
