Let's discuss Avatar.
Last night it won best picture at The Golden Globes. It's made a gazillion dollars and everyone is talking about it. I have yet to see it. Mostly because I rarely go to the movies - not for any other reason. So I'd like to hear from you bloggers:
Who has seen it? What did you think? Who hasn't seen it? Are you planning on it? Why or why not?

Seen it. A visual masterpiece, satisfactory storyline, a tad too long. Definitely not Best Picture in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it because I never go to the movies. Will likely order it when it comes On Demand, and only because I want to know what all the hype is about. I heard the storyline is 'typical.'
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is this is one you need to see in the theaters with 3D glasses. It probably won't have the same impact on a TV screen. I hope to get around to it before it's gone but I'm not feeling compelled.
ReplyDelete"The Hurt Locker" should have won best picture (in my opinion), however there is no denying the amazingness (new word) of "Avatar." It is definitely a movie you HAVE to see in the theatre (3D IMAX to be specific). It will be one of those instances where you will look back and tell future generations "yea, I saw that in the theatre," kinda like "Star Wars" or "Gone With the Wind" (if you were a billion years old by now).
ReplyDeleteI saw it and I have to say it blew my mind. It actually surpasses the hype. Definitely make it a point to see this one in the theatres.
I haven't seen it, but I don't get to the theater much. My girls have seen it and loved it. They want to see it again.
ReplyDeleteNo interest. More pressing things going on in my life to get to. Maybe on DVR...
ReplyDeleteI hate spending money on going to the movies, especially when we have to take all four of us and this time see it in 3D, which was pricey. But it was totally worth it, because it was an Event Movie. The 3D visuals are amazing. The story's all right. Some have complained that it's racist or patronizing, and I could see their point - until the next second when I'd be thinking, "OMG, that dragon was flying right at me!"
ReplyDeleteI don't go the theartre much. AVATAR is on many lips. maybe i'll go see it. Saw Christmas carol in 3D and loved the effects.
ReplyDeleteWhat are these "movie" things you speak of?
ReplyDelete;)
Haven't seen it. I love, love, love going to the movies! But between money spent on movie tickets and a babysitter, we're talking an $80 night. Minimum. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteJust saw it yesterday and it was a sight to behold in 3-D. Very cool theatrical experience. The story is somewhat "standard" in my opinion. It was good entertainment and makes you cringe at how the humans treated Pandora and it's inhabitants. I wouldn't vote it for Best Picture. But I really did enjoy it. And I loved the message that we are all interconnected.
