Question of the Day #97

As I was writing a certification test, I thought, "Ooo, I could ask the bloggers a fill in the blank question." Let's inject a little fun into the blogosphere. The ultimate fantasy, especially right now.

"If I had $1,000,000,000, I'd ______________________."

How would you fill in that blank? Here are my first few answers right off the top of my head:

1. Run off to Rome for a serious time out
2. Write, write, write
3. Share it with my friends and family
4. Use it to grow money and donate it to people in need
5. Create some kind of foundation that pays off the mortgage principle for people who are about to foreclose and have them pay back the loans at 2%
6. Buy the "Big House" so I have a place to gather with my friends when I decide to come back from my time out
7. Just thought of another one as I gobbled my lunch and howled in pain - I'd get my last two wisdom teeth removed

How would you fill in the blank? (You can list as many answers as you want. Remember, we've got all day.)

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. I am pretty sure I'd have to spend some of it on plastic surgery to wipe the @#$%ing smile off my face, if I had that kind of money.

In all honesty, I'd buy a huge ranch here in Montana and start a camp for chilren of law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

  2. You guys are so noble. I'd pay off my mortgage, then travel the world until I died, stopping only for a break now & again at my current house. That's it. I'd travel.

  3. 1. 10% tithe.
    2. Pay off current mortgage.
    3. Buy large one-story house on a platform foundation, with a fireproof roof, and at least two acres of land in Rancho Santa Fe, but preferably a non-covenant parcel so I could raise chickens and the covenant people couldn't do a dang thing about it. The non-covenant status of my fantasy estate also allows me to build as many fences as I please, to keep my dogs in and snakes out.
    4. Try putting my middle child in a specialized private day school without having to go through FAPE funding channels.
    5. New cars for the whole family!
    6. Buy a ski-in/ski-out condo.
    7. Botox.
    8. Private swim lessons for J & G.
    9. Buy a horse/hire care for it/private riding lessons for J.
    10. Build a little bungalow on our property for me to use for writing. It would have electricity but no internet connection.
    11. Pool with a BIG but esthetically pleasing waterslide.
    12. Tennis court. (Although I think I'm needing five acres now, not just two.)
    13. Granny flat for the in-laws. (Make that ten acres, so they can be on the other end of the property.)
    14. Guest house. (See no. 13, above.)
    15. Lots of trips--Europe, Australia, Asia, various islands, and cruises.

I could go on all day, but I might run out of money.

  4. If my heart survived the initial shock I would:
    1. Change my will
    2. Pay off my debt, and any debt of family members and friends
    3. Give some chunks of change to family and friends
    4. Give some chunks of change to favourite charities and arts programs
    5. Buy a private cottage
    6. Set up a trust fund for the kid
    7. Travel to all the places I've wanted to go
    8. Hire and publish the works of a certain YA writer I know so that my kid can fill her bookshelves with them
    9. Start up some charities and start some research projects
    10. Go to art school and follow a dream
    11. A shopping spree with me and my closest friends and family

...that would be a good start me thinks.

  5. Whoa! I can't even imagine!
I would like my life to stay much the same though...so buy nicer cars, a house on the lake (plus keep current one), trust funds for kids college, publicity agent for my books, donate and invest in going green, pay off my parents' houses and a lot to charity.

  6. Donate to charity... starting with my alarm clock. ;)

  7. That's a billion dollars.
    Pay college for kids,
Buy a house on Ambergris Caye, Belize,
    Pay off credit card.
    Pay an editor.
    Pay a publicist.
    Promote book.
Do volunteer work in Africa/Caribbean/South Pacific.
    Help kids.

  8. First, I'd sleep. Then I'd sleep a bit more. Not getting enough of that lately.

Then there are charities I love, foundations to be created, new house to be bought, travel to be done, children, older dogs and cats to be adopted. So much to do.

I like trying to make the world a better place.
