Did you hear about the dead birds falling out of the sky? On New Year's Eve, an estimated 4,000-5,000 blackbirds fell out of the sky in Beebe, Arkansas. Now, days later, 500 more birds were found dead along a highway in Pointe Coupee Parish in Louisiana.
Experts are trying to figure out what happened. They originally surmised that New Year's Eve fireworks startled the birds and caused them to fly in the dark, therefore blind, ultimately injuring them. But this second account, which did not involve fireworks, kind of blows that theory.
I'm not even sure what the question is here. I just know that these news stories are freaking me out. How do they make you feel?

Suzanne
That's totally freaky!
ReplyDeleteMakes me glad I'm not a bird in that area. Seriously, I'm such an animal lover and stuff like this makes me sad. I hope they can find the reason and correct it.
ReplyDeleteAnd didn't something weird just happen in Brazil too? I thought I saw something on a friend's FB page. In any case, scary happenings all.
ReplyDeleteThey were red winged black birds, usually found in fields. This is freaky. There was something else in that area, too, concerning dead fish!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe they are unrelated.
Several years ago, many crows fell from the sky in my town. They turned out to have West Nile Virus. It was eerie not hearing their raucous cawing and seeing those bully birds strut their stuff. But they made a comeback. I see them everywhere again.
ReplyDeleteI hope the red-winged blackbirds will return as well. It's sad and spooky.
Uneasy.
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of creepy! The first thing my "writer" brain said when I read it was "Aliens!!!" followed by "Government coverup!!". My logical brain says they died of multiple blunt trauma (as claimed in preliminary autopsies). Perhaps firework fragments or hail or ........... very small alien spacecraft.
ReplyDeleteYeah, totally freaking out about it!
ReplyDeleteUnusually warm weather caused several tornadoes to touch down thru out the midwest. Some say it is common in this weather for a flock to get a surprise lightning strike - however, if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn...Strange indeed - perhaps they got struck by an alien space ship that was cloaked.
ReplyDeleteHow does it make me feel? Mostly sad at the loss of beauty.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible! What on earth is going on?!? I hope there is a good explanation for all these mysterious deaths!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of freaked out, too. Anytime things happen in large numbers like that...
