Question of the Day #417

After gobbling down the delicious pumpkin pie B made, we had a leftover pie crust. So we decided to make a quiche with it. Except when we tried to pre-bake it, the pie crust slid into the pie plate and created a lumpy mess.

Ut oh.

What cooking experiment have you tried lately that fell flat?

Suzanne

  2. Apple Crisp. The pan I used was too big, so i was more like cinnamony flat chips.

  3. I added a little coffee liquor to my pecan pie to give it a coffee pecan flavor. I added too much though and it was like drinking liquor. It was the first pie to go though and the hostess was mad because she didn't get a piece. I guess I will make another but this time with a little less liquor.

  4. I had assembled a "just in case" baked ziti for a party recently - then never made the ziti so I put it in the freezer. And I didn't wrap it well enough and I had it in the freezer too long, so when I baked it the other night it came out crummy. The ziti had absorbed all the sauce and the cheese tasted quite freezer-burned. :-(

  5. I tried to make a chocolate silk pie for Christmas. Everything was going fine--the crust turned out decent and the filling looked like a delicious chocolate mousse. That is, until the last 30 seconds of mixing the filling. Apparently, one minute after each egg would have been sufficient, instead of the two minutes the recipe recommended, because the chocolate filling started to separate, getting all grainy and gross instead of smooth and perfect. Luckily, the two other pies turned out okay, so no one had to know about the lumpy chocolate one.

  6. It wasn't recently, but the one and only time I tried to make a cheesecake, it totally didn't work. I think it was the pan. Yeah, yeah, that's it. The pan was bad. ;)

  7. I make simple dishes and they hardly go wrong:) A friend of mine is very good with leftovers and it turns out to be a new dish, and a good one, everytime!
