One of the regulars played sax with his band at the pub last night. They wailed out a holiday rumpus with a trumpet, drums, keyboards, guitar and bass. I couldn't help but shake my hips as I ran food.
On the way home, The Pretenders' 2,000 Miles played on the radio, backed up by the Goo Goo Dolls' Better Days, which made me think that those songs may not have originally been designed to be holiday songs. They were probably just written in the moment, yet have somehow ended up as much Christmas songs as "Jingle Bells."
Which leads me to my all time holiday favorite. The one that makes me stop for a moment just to let my heart melt - Dan Fogelberg's Same Old Lang Syne. It kills me.
What holiday music do you love?

Suzanne
Although Jingle Bells is the only Christmas song sung in my house these days, my actual favorite is 2000 Miles :). Ho, ho, ho, yo.
ReplyDeleteDo They Know it's Christmas is my very favorite holiday song.
ReplyDeleteI do a holiday song mix of Elvis, Jewel, Chicago, My Chemical Romance, Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer this time of year.
My favorite traditional song to sing is Away in a Manger though!
ReplyDeleteHA! I thought I was the only sappy Fogelbergian! Makes me cry every year. Okay, I listen to it all year round but whatever.
ReplyDeleteI love Do They Know It's Christmas too! Although I always call it the Feed the World song. Happy Xmas by John Lennon is a fav as well.
The music from Stephen Colbert Christmas special is top on our playlist. Funny stuff! We make a point of finding very different versions of Christmas music to make interesting playlists.
ReplyDeleteLast Christmas by George Michael. Also the Boss has a live version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town....
ReplyDeleteI'm a traditionalist:
ReplyDeleteBing Crosby, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall...singing all the classics. Also love Handel's Messiah, and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. In the Bleak Midwinter is one of my favourite hymns.
Oh, and all the music from The Sound of Music has become Christmasy for me.
I like whatever corny song I feel like singing at the moment. I'm not a very good singer, but I sure do like to express my cheesy Christmas joy! God blessed me with no shame.
ReplyDeleteDominick the Donkey. For sure.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your favorite Christmas song isn't "I Want a Hippopotaumus for Christmas"!! Henry must be so upset.
ReplyDeleteCarol of the Bells is my favorite Christmas song. I sort of "collect" them and have over 30 different versions on a playlist.
