This year we just put up our tree, stockings, and a few other decorations. I usually put four other small trees as well in the kids' rooms and another room, but doing less this year in case people come to look at the house.
Lots of indoor things including tree with 1500 lights and all unique ornaments. Plus Dept 56 North Pole Village pieces displayed on a 6 foot table topped with sculpted styrofoam.
I buy a mini tree (2 ft tall), and since I can never hang on to lights, I am forced to buy mini lights. I usually do that on Xmas eve & take the tree down on the 26th. Its a small window, but it counts.
My daughter and I have plans to start decorating tonight. I think it's too early but...well, when in Rome (er, the suburbs of the South), right? We've got a tree and red bows for the front porch and we'll unpack the little purple tree that goes in her room. Our main tree will go up sometime in the next week or so.
I try not to rush into decorating too early, because then I get tired of it all before Christmas even arrives. But then, sometimes I come home to find someone has changed my theme colors of the year on my tree...
Lately, I've lost my enthusiasm for decoration, so my kids do the job, dragging out the tree and putting all the ornaments on it. I usually put the lights on the house, but this year, it's been so cold, I don't want to be outside that long! Maybe if it warms up a bit...
We always cut one of our own spruce or pine trees and put it in the living room. Decoration of the tree varies from year to year, but is often a multitude of small, wooden ornaments and mini lights. I hang icicle lights from the peak of the roof outside the living room, but this year the snow arrived before I got them up. I'll really miss the cheer they spread! I also put fake garlands and fake poinsettias with mini clear lights on top of the kitchen cabinets. Sounds awful, but it looks really good.
I hang pretty ornaments near the window and do little decorations here and there. Everything else is done the week before Christmas. We use every room of our house and I'm not interested in cleaning 24/7 to make sure the house looks clean and festive. Though after reading everyone's decorating traditions, I'm halfway tempted to start decorating now and see whether the kids...
We do decorate, but not very early. We'll probably start with the tree on the Dec 11th weekend. I used to get into it more, but now I'm fine with the tree and a few holiday towels.

ReplyDeleteSigh. Oh yes. I decorate. Not quite as well as I do for Halloween, but there will be many trees in my house. I love Christmas decorations!

ReplyDeleteLess and less. With fresh ingredients from the woods.

ReplyDeleteI collect nativities, so my living room is cluttered with them. I've lost count!
ReplyDeleteThere is too much snow and the ground is too hard to put up our outside trees just yet.
