Years ago, I had a horrible breakup. The can't eat, can't sleep, walking around shaking kind. I spent a lot of time driving, because driving soothes me. And I'd play Prince's "Pink Cashmere" over and over again. Odd song choice, I know. But somehow it worked to settle my shakes, stave off tears and calm the burn in my stomach.
Even now, years later, that song can still calm me when I'm a mess. I don't know if it's the strings or the mid tempo beat or what, but it works.
What song soothes you?

Suzanne
I like Prince, and I have not heard that song. I will have to find it!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, something actually with hard guitar riffs actually calms me down.
Now? this one.
ReplyDeleteA song from Primus called, "Winona's Big Brown Beaver".
ReplyDeleteIf my "Top 25 Most Played" playlist in iTunes is any indicator, it would be "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
ReplyDeleteGuess it helped me transition out of LA.
It's not so much a specific song, but the voice of Ella Fitzgerald. Maybe because her songs always take me to a happy place and time.
ReplyDeleteGoing to California/Led Zep or Who Let the Dogs Out/Baha Men.
ReplyDelete"all I want to do is have some fun...." hmm??. On the other hand maybe a little Billie Holiday does it for me. Old broadway show tunes put me into another place. This is a really good question. There are tunes for each of the times of my life. Whether to soothe or not is another queston.
ReplyDeleteStrawberry Hill.
ReplyDeleteNorah Jones - Come Away with Me.......I'm not even a huge fan of hers but as soon as that song comes on, I instantly feel so relaxed.
ReplyDeleteTake Five by Dave Brubeck.
ReplyDelete"Love, Reign O're Me" by The Who
