Yesterday, M, who has curly hair jut like mine, asked me, "Who cuts your hair? I need a new hairstylist."
"I do," I replied.
She looked at me like I'm koo-koo.
"You cut your own hair?" She asked.
"Yeah, I just lean over, gather the ends and I cut them. Then I stand up, pull the ends evenly over both shoulders and chop them."
"Can I touch your hair?" She asked and grabbed it. "Ohhh, you have way less hair than I do."
I felt hers and agreed. She had three times as much. There is no way she could ever self-clip like I do.
"I have to spend a zillion dollars on haircuts and hair products. It's ridiculous. You're so lucky," she said.
Yes, I am. I will admit my hair products are expensive, but I don't color my hair and I cut it myself. And I know that some people spend a fortune on hair maintenance.
So what about you? What does it take to maintain your mane?

Suzanne
One of our BFF's tames my mane! Highlights and a trim every 8 weeks or so. And sometimes we go out for drinks afterwards! :-D
ReplyDeleteEach day I spend about five minutes drying and styling my hair. I go to see my stylist every two months -- I have to keep on top of my hair because it grows quickly, is fine and there's a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteI get bored with my hair easily so I love playing with the colour and shape, which means big bucks each visit. But it is an indulgence that I thoroughly enjoy (and my stylist gives the most amazing scalp massage) so it's worth it. I use a cheaper, chemical-free shampoo and conditioner. However, I purchase the more expensive texturizing pomades/waxes/cremes because they don't weigh my hair down the way drugstore brands do. So other than my visit to the salon every two months...it's pretty easy breezy. :)
I'm lazy. All I need for my hair is a clip. Specifically I think it's called a jaw clip.
ReplyDeleteI've had to cut back on hair expenses. I cut and color at my friend's basement in her mini home salon, and I try to stretch it out from 5 weeks to 8-9 weeks. It's cheaper and we get to gab. I would be so awful cutting my own hair! I can't even cut my son's bangs right!
ReplyDeleteA coupon to Cost Cutters every couple months
ReplyDeleteHa! This question couldn't have been more appropriately timed. I can't afford salon cuts anymore so I usually go to Great Clips or Supercuts and to be honest, it's always hit or miss. Anyway, Walmart has a salon that I decided to try the other day...I got butchered. One side of my head is about 3" shorter than the other side and it's so short that if I cut the other side shorter to match, I will no longer have long hair. :(
ReplyDeleteI cut and color my own hair. I'll take my kids to get theirs cut, but it's not something I enjoy having done myself. Call me lazy and cheap, I guess.
