Question of the Day #207

My thighs are burning. My butt hurts and I'm a little wobbly. Who knew a bouncy house would be such a workout? After just five minutes, your heart races, your legs become jelly and you're out of breath like you just sprinted four miles.

How do little kids bounce all day long?

Yesterday's bouncy house led to much discussion around workouts. I hike in the hills around my house. N runs. Other friends do yoga. And then M mentioned The Bar Method.

"The what?" I asked.

"The Bar Method. You use a ballet bar to stretch and do all kinds of pilate like moves," she replied.

"Uh, I can't even touch my toes. I could never do that," I said.

"If I can do it, you can do it. There are only a couple girls in the class who can actually get their feet over their heads."

I imagined a room full of ultra limber toothpick skinny women twisted up like pretzels.

"Um, yeah, I could never do that."

"No really, you should come with me."

I don't know if it was the bouncy house burn, the margaritas or my cotton candy buzz, but I think I kind of agreed to go to some class where someone will force me to tuck in my butt cheeks, lunge and twist at the same time.

What kinds of workouts do you do? And are they as crazy as that?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. Good luck with that! I am so not limber! (though I did do the splits in high school 4 times only for cheerleading tryouts).
I walk on the treadmill or in the neighborhood (with a few sprints) 3-5 times a week plus Wii Fit about 2-3 times a week. I took the weekend off so gotta exercise tomorrow!

  2. I really should get some workout! But I don't think that I could keep up with complex classes like that. LOL. Even a stroll or a tour on a bike takes my breath away. Ow, I'm feeling so old now. Have a wonderful week :)

  3. Trust that it works well for you. I am prone to having balance meal, some exercise, reading healthy books, bible and have a good life of having sip of good quality tea.

So far, all these work well for me.

Cheers and have a lovely day everyday

  4. Just had my aerobics class this evening at the YMCA. Young and old. I classify myself 'old' ( but young at heart!!). Still never too late to exercise. It was a good workout, as usual, with the latter half hour for flexibilty exercises.
    Am energised!!

  5. I use the machines at the gym. Right now I am working on that wind thing that you mentioned. I go as hard as I can for as long as I can and then take a short rest to catch my breath.

  6. The party sounds like it was so much fun! Bouncy house and all! My workout lately has been pretty pathetic and it needs to change.

Wanted to let you know you've won the books by Jo Knowles!

  7. My latest craze is pilates. Love it. I like to switch things up often. Your body can get pretty complacent when you settle into one form of exercise. So I try all sorts of stuff. I'll admit, running is my least favorite. Definitely not a natural runner.

Who am I kidding? At this point in my life, if I workout 2x/week, it's a huge success!

  8. Bouncy House sounds like a prospective name for a rock band.

Must keep that in mind! (Came here from Gaston Studio)

  10. I used to take ballet classes, back in the day. Now I use the treadmill and a few free weights. The craziest physical activity I've participated in (in recent memory) was an 8 mile hike up the side of the mountain with my brother last summer. I experienced a horrible attack of vertigo when we reached got so high we were above the treeline, and I then realized just how high up we were. The next day I was so sore.

Congrats on the POTD that David McMahon posted, that's how I found you.
