Question of the Day #204

I'm revising my work in progress. Again. So for the past few days, after staring at the screen and searching for perfect punchy verbs and cutting and adding, my brain is scrambled by the time I stop.

So, I've been shaking it all off by watching really bad TV at night. I mean really bad. The Real Housewives of New Jersey bad.

I'm a Jersey Girl. It's not like I haven't seen these ultra rich, new school Italian women before. Yet, I'm completely fascinated by their mama drama lives.

Maybe I'm bored with my own life. Perhaps. But let's not psychoanalyze me. What about you? What bad TV do you inhale like it's oxygen?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. Maury's 'who's the daddy' programs. Not sure why I'm drawn to all that 'I don't know who fathered my child' chaos, but it is refreshing and riveting for me. Not to the point of taping it to watch later. Not yet.

  2. I refuse to watch any TV programming - not even the "good" shows people rave about...lost, 24, boston legal.
Its all about sports, education (discovery / history channel) and I have every single movie channel known to mankind - love the movies!
However, I have discovered that my Dad seems to love Judge Judy & can't get enough of fox news & chris matthews (boring rhetoric).
    end of line!

  3. I love bad TV. I equate it as taking your brain and placing it on the TV and letting it 'numb.' Best stress relief. I've been watching the Hills. So scripted but yet I can't look away.

  4. Hmmmm, my fave TV shows are Nip/Tuck, True Blood, Desperate Housewives and How I Met Your Mother. Oh, my very favorite is THe Soup on E! I think most of these are well written so I don't consider it bad TV.
I did watch the first two seasons of Rock of Love with Bret Micheals and Rock of Love Charm School. Those definitely fit the bill of bad tv (but oh so entertaining!).

  5. I don't watch too much bad TV. The worst thing I watch is music videos in the morning when I am working out. Some of them are very bad.

  6. OMG, how do I answer this question. Suze, you're right, this is the perfect question for me. My favorite guilty TV pleasure is the Tori and Dean show. This show actually made me feel bad for Tori Spelling... come on. And of course, anything on Bravo! That's the greatest pseudo reality network out there. Anybody see Flipping Out with the gay designer whose has OCD. It's the best show ever! Can't wait for season 3.

  9. The Bachelor/ette. Such a guilty pleasure! I think I watch it for the host more than anything. I love when he asks the contestants all those cheesy, insensitive questions in that totally dry voice of his.

  10. I really only watch bad TV. My TV staples are Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs and Family Guy. I agree with Shorty, Bravo is great! I love Flipping Out. I also LOVE The Rachel Zoe Project. Can't wait for another season. The very worst show I watch is TMZ, sorry, I can't help it!

  11. I usually HATE Tv but for some reason I'm always tuning in when America's Next Top Model is on. I LOVE the photography!! I love to watch how the photographers work with the models. I love seeing the end product. The drama I could do without but sometimes it's nice to watch the people make idiots of themselves on public television and tell myself, "Wow, I'm SO happy that I'm not completely screwed up like that!"

I also really like So You Think You Can Dance. I wouldn't say it's bad TV but since I don't really like watching TV I'll call it what I like.

Oh! I DID tune in for The Bachelor/ette and Dancing With the Stars just because it was nice to have absolutely no thoughts and veg on my couch after a hard day's work. Plus my eyes were tired of looking at my computer. *runs out of excuses*

  12. I'm addicted to anything on Bravo and yes, I will admit to DVR-ing any of the Housewives. I love Tori & Dean, The Kardashians, Flipping Out...etc. But, I don't really watch much mainstream reality TV. I never watch American Idol, rarely get sucked into a Bachelor/Bachelorette, etc. I used to love The Amazing Race but I don't even know if it's on anymore.

As for quality TV, I think Friday Night Lights is one of the best programs on TV and The Office still cracks me up.

  13. My answer is boring. I don't watch TV. The internet is like oxygen for me. I spend far too much time here.

  14. Like Sudabaki, I think I waste time on the Internet, instead of TV. I did watch all of American Idol and loved it.

  15. John and I love America's Funniest Videos. Its so cheesy but we laugh so much. Another excellent show I discovered this year is RuPaul's Drag Race. Mix America's Top Model with Project Runway, add drag queens and stir. Its so horrible its fantastic. Especially when its down to who will be eliminated and Ru says "Now lip synch for your life!"

  16. When I want to shut my brain off I watch crime dramas. Weird way to relax, I admit. When I'm really, Really tired I watch old sitcom reruns. I amaze myself at how many times I can watch the same Everybody Loves Raymond or Seinfeld.

  18. I don't spent a lot of time in front of the TV right now. I guess, the answer would be Celebrity Gossip shows.
