Question of the Day #196

S, of my critique group extraordinaire, has written an amazing fantasy novel. In it, there is a character who is "in limbo," stuck between two worlds, and for lack of a better title, we called her a "ghost."

Last night, at G's house, G and I kept hearing strange noises upstairs. G went to investigate, by herself. I turned to the other writers and said, "Should I go with her?"

T nodded and yelped, "Yes!"

So I got up and followed G out of the kitchen, grabbing a cast iron frying pan along the way. Upstairs, we checked closets, peered down hallways and peeked behind doors, all the while, holding my frying pan high, ready to bonk an offender on the head. When we found nothing, we returned to the group downstairs.

"Maybe it was the ghost," J said.

"Didn't you tell us a ghost story once?" T asked me.

"I had a haunted car once..." S began.

And the ghost stories started. So I ask, have you had any experiences that have made you believe in ghosts?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. I always thought that my Great Aunt's house was haunted but I didn't have any proof. It was always just a feeling that I got when I visited her.

I also get strange feelings when I visit grave yards. We used to ride our horses into an old grave yard and go stand on the graves and the ground would give a little because they were so old. Ok I am spooked now.

  2. No, thank goodness, because I would totally freak out! (My mom has a few that has happened to her and it scares me just thinking of it).

  5. I love ghost stories! I've experienced plenty of uncanny coincidences, but no actual encounters.
There's a famous haunted house in San Diego that's fun to visit. Almost everyone finds these spots that have a strong scent of perfume.

  9. Haunted apartment. Scared my husband and I both so much, we never talked about it until we moved out.

  10. No -- I've never had any ghost experiences. I know a lot of people who say they have though. If you want to talk SCARY -- try waking up with a 300 bear looking in your glass bedroom door. Ghosts are nothing. Bears = SCARY! ;) ;)

  11. My daughter had some experiences with them until the age of four, because she could see them. It couldn't be made up, because she would be very scared sometimes. We would come to certain places without knowing the history, and my daughter would describe some things that matched perfectly with some stories later known from people living at the particular area. But according to my daughter there were also some friendly looking ghosts. I'm really glad that this phase has passed.

  16. SO weird that you ask. Last night I had another experience! My house was built in 1825. I definately have experienced a few things, although I believe the spirit in the house is of a big black lab. Crazy, I know. I believe I saw the dog sitting at the bottom of our stairs. Sometimes my dog's hair all stands up and he barks at nothing. There have been a couple of instances where things we had put away are out in the middle of the floor. Recently, there has been knocking and thumping on our side door. Freaky, but not so much scary. There has been nothing unsettling about it. Hmmm... I just may blog about this.

  17. I have a few but this one is my favorite:
I have a pair of gold earrings that I wear almost every day. At the end of the day I take them off and put them in a tray on my dresser. They make a little clinking sound as they fall in the tray. Everyday it's the same thing; put them on, take them off, clink in the tray.

One morning I go to put them on and they're not there. I'm baffled, look for them everywhere, can't find them. This goes on for 3 days.

On the third morning, I'm getting ready to shower, I'm about to close the door to my bathroom and I hear it . . . "clink". I think "No way!!". I go to my dresser, look in the tray and there they are.

Not sure where they went but I was glad to have them back.
