Question of the Day #167

So, when I lived with all my girlfriends, sorority style, straight out of college, a series of books filled with questions beginning with "If..." came out. We used to play Questions out by the pool, reading out of these books.

Just the other day, one of the girls gave me a couple "If..." books she had borrowed. I hadn't thought of them in years. But since they're sitting here on my desk, I'm going to choose a random question from the book.

Okay, here it is:

"If you could go back in time, as yourself, to live for one year, what year would you choose and where would you go?"

Hmm. Well, I'd say, I'd go back to August 2001 and relive the year, in LA, through August 2002. Thirty spun me a bit. Like suddenly I didn't recognize myself. And by 31, I'd made some not so bright, life altering decisions that I wouldn't mind going back to and altering. Just to see where I'd end up...

You?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. I would go back to the year 1979 and make some different choices. I made a decission based on what was legally right when I knew in my heart that the other choice was the right one. It was in Halifax Nova Scotia.

  2. This is a tough one! I loved loved loved the first year of each of my kids' lives, but which kid would I pick?!
Maybe a college year. Pretty fun times! Plus I'd pay better attention to some of my classes! And choose not to make out with some guy because of beer goggles...;)

  3. I'd go back to a year, sometime between 1999 and 2002, when the most stressful situations in my life were what colour to dye my hair, a traffic jam on the way to beach volleyball, and figuring out which social engagement I had to drop. I can no longer remember what it is like to have time to come and go as you please, and it would be really nice to revisit that again.

  4. I am one who never dwells in the past and is constantly looking forward to what is waiting for me around the corner, but if I had to go back, I would choose late 2001 to 2002. I lived in Amherst, Massachusetts for school, met an awesome group of friends. Did some fabulous carefree road trips all over the place and worked at this great little coffee shop. Life was so simple and about friendships and fun. That was a good time.

  5. Oh that's a tough one! Maybe when I went abroad for a year in China. That was such a great time, I felt free and I was learning so much. Or the year I met the BF, went to Croatia, Hungary..that was pretty fun!

  6. I'd go back to sophomore year in college when I was 18-19 years old. Man those were some good times, not a care in the world!

  8. Wow. It was one of the most miserable years of my life, but I think I'd go back to 1988-1989, so I could confront a couple people and revisit a few decisions. I have to wonder if I'd make the same mistakes all over again, though. Probably.

  9. I have to say what everyone else has said, and that is, "this is a tough one"! It really is and I can't even think of a year I'd want to go back to. I can for other time periods, but not for one in particular during my lifetime.

  10. I'd go back to the time that Z was 1-2 years old and try to program her eating preferences better. When O was little we went out to eat a lot. She tried all kinds of foods. She's turned into a rather adventurous eater. Her favorite food is sushi. Z on the other hand mostly likes carbs accompanied by some fat. I can't help but feel like it was nurture rather than nature. Once we had two it wasn't so easy to go out and eat. And as you know her activity level isn't as well suited to being in a restaurant. All that would be okay if I liked to cook and weren't always so overwhelmed. I didn't expose her to nearly as much variety as her sister.
