Yesterday, I was invited to an "Around the World in 80 Beers" party, featuring brews from Germany and Belgium. We tasted and rated everything from lemony hefeweizens to a potion reminiscent of liquid beef jerky - which after many grunts and moans, aptly scored 0's all around and was promptly poured down the sink.
The hosts created fabulous Germanesque "Brats in a Blanket," "German Meatballs" and "Un Der Pickles." But it was the "Mustard Krauten" (pronounced moostard krauten) that blew my mind.
Imagine sauerkraut and mustard, blended up in a food processor and smothered on "Brats in a Blanket." I know it sounds kooky, but this combo may be the best surprise I've ever tasted.
What crazy food combo do you love?

Suzanne
The mustarkrauten was stellar. However, my favorite unlikely combo still remains crunchy peanut butter and crispy bacon betwixt 2 slices of lightly toasted wheat bread. Heaven suddenly became a been-there-done-that.
ReplyDeletewow! n8dog I think I have to try that!! Be more adventurous in my eating!
ReplyDeleteActually the mustard and saurkraut sounds tame to me because I always put that combo together with chopped onion on my super big hot dogs that you can only get from Those truck kitchens that we have here in the east.
Mostly it is hamburger toppings for me:
ReplyDelete- Peanut butter and bacon
- Teryaki sauce with pinapple and cheese
- nutella and banana burger
... mmmmm mmmmmmm good!
I'm not a crazy or adventurous eater....I put ketchup on my liversausage sandwiches. That's a little weird I guess!
ReplyDeleteThe beers sound like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI don't have too many weird food combos that I eat. I just eat things weird. I like eating baked potatoes cold with nothing on them, just like you'd eat an apple. I also like cheddar cheese with apples.
But then again ... just today I was drinking a huckleberry daiquiri and it was a little too thick at first so I scooped some of it out on a tortilla chip. Is that weird?
pickles and chocolate. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, and tomato and peanut butter sandwiches. MMMMMM. You should try it. It's good!
In high school we would buy corn nuts and then get ranch from the salad bar and dump it in the bag. If only I had realized it was a marketable idea...
ReplyDeleteI still like peanut butter with cheddar cheese sandwiches, too. Who can I sell that idea to?
I am a kraut lover so that mustard thing sounded wonderful. I like strange foods. My favorite sandwich is sliced canned corned beef, onion, dill pickle and mustard on rye bread. Sounds yummy doesn't it.
ReplyDeletePeanut butter and banana sandwiches! A touch of mayo on the side with the banana and it must be on WHITE bread or the taste simply isn't the same!
ReplyDeletePeanut butter and pickle sandwiches!! YUM!!
ReplyDeleteDid ya notice how many crazy combos involve peanut butter?
Peanut butter and strawberry/blueberry marmalade. Hmm, so yummy! I agree to you Edna, there are so many variations listed here.
ReplyDeleteWow what a combination
