Question of the Day #645

Last night, H and I watched The Last Waltz, a documentary about The Band. We swooned over "It Makes No Difference," marveled at a young Eric Clapton, sang along to Neil Diamond and talked about how much we loved simple alt country rock.

What movies about music made you think?

Suzanne

  1. Great movie, although someone really should have pulled Neil aside and told him that he had coke on his nose. One of my very favorite movies about music has always been The Wall. I can't cound how many times I've seen it, yet every time I watch it I still get something new out of it.

  2. End of the Century, the documentary about the Ramones. It definitely made me think about the music business and how bizarre it is. I mean, here is the ultimate american punk band, who never "made it" and yet were so influential. The idea of running a punk band like a business seems so contrary to the movement too -- fascinating stuff. The documentary also made me love Joey even more (RIP).

  3. Downtown 81. It was the first movie about music where I realized I was alive back then part that slice of history (granted on the west coast instead of NYC). It made me feel old but at the same time made me appreciate that I lived life to the fullest at that time and came out of it with no regrets.

  4. I'm with Kristen. Definitely Walk the Line. Also, Amadeus, the Mozart biopic.

  5. Even though I'm a rocker, I loved Walk the Line.
Purple Rain is cool for nostalgic reasons. The Doors was a great music movie too!

  6. Good call Kelly. The Doors movie made me sad, and the book made me even sadder. Agreed it was a great movie & story, and maybe evoking emotion does make it a spectacularly executed movie.

  7. I LOVE watching Rock documentaries/movies! I know this is a bit off-topic but how cool was watching the Wizard of Oz to Dark Side of the Moon? Whether it is coincidence or intentional, it's fantastic.
