Great news! Yesterday, I was informed that I won a scholarship to the Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators 2010 Summer Conference (SCBWI). Woohoo!
Apparently, my sneaky Regional Advisors Claudia Harrington and Edie Pagliasotti nominated me (unbeknownst to me) and President Stephen Mooser and Executive Director Lin Oliver have so kindly granted me the scholarship.
About 1,000 writers, illustrators, agents and editors attend the SCBWI Summer Conference each year. Attendees enjoy workshops, critiques, keynote speakers and endless networking opportunities. But best of all is leaving there buzzing with that feeling like anything is possible.
I have been unable to attend the last two years, but since I've finally gotten my groove back while writing my current WIP, I really wanted to go and soak up all the awesome writing mojo. And now I can!
I'm so excited and honored that my Regional Advisors thought of me and that Stephen and Lin agreed. I'm feeling pretty darn special today.
Thank you SCBWI!
What super kind thing has someone done for you lately?
xoxo,
Suzanne
Wow!! That is amazing! Congrats to you! I hope to go one day. I didn't know there were scholarships. Very wonderful for you to be nominated!
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law is taking me to NYC next week (I've never been)!
Suz that is WONDERFUL!! Congrats! I'm so excited for you!! You sooooo deserve it! Rock on!
ReplyDeletePaul left me flowers the other day so when I arrived home from my trip (and I was very sick) there were flowers waiting to cheer me up. It worked. :-)
That's awesome, Suzanne! We'll get to meet in person :D
ReplyDeleteThe nicest thing someone did for me recently was a comment from my son. He was asking my opinion on a stop-motion movie he was making and I asked him, "Does it matter what I think? This is your thing." And he said, "But if your mom hates what you do, what's the point of doing it? I want to do something you'll like too." I was so touched. I don't think I cared about my parents opinion when I was 10. Or maybe I just wasn't still vocal about it?
That is amazing! I had no idea they do that. I haven't been able to go due to finances, but it sounds so worthwhile. I hope you soak up all kinds of information and inspiration. Yay, you!
ReplyDeleteThat is some pretty amazing news, sugar. Congratulations! I love those kinds of conferences. For years I went to the Hawaii Writer's Conference. I was devastated to learn it is no longer running, but I know the rush I got from attending. Seriously cool news. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I hope you have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!!! I'm excited for you ... what an experience that will be! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis IS great news! What a wonderful credit to your writing and fortitude. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI feel incredibly grateful that many kind things have done for me lately. A couple of the more recent:
My mother-in-law picked up the tab for a whack of garden plants I had planned on purchasing (this on top of the freebies she gave me from her own garden).
My sister-in-law is opening her home to our family for vacation this year.
Congratulations Suzie!! I know how much you love to go to this conference. Can't wait to hear all about it!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Suzanne!!!! Just wish I was going to LA and could congratulate you in person. Bask in the experience and share when it's over.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! Nobody more deserving, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteMy friend sent me a letter. In the mail. SO lovely.
Congrats Sue, you totally deserve it. Ever since I read your piece on Dal's brother I knew you were a great writer. Love los.
