Question of the Day #577

I'm in full hermit mode. Don't call me. I'm writing. Don't knock on my door 'cause I won't answer. If you don't hear from me, don't get offended. It's not you, it's me.

I'm writing. And that's my writing mode.

Do you have a one of kind mode? What's it like?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. I've been in full-on kid mode for way too long. Survival mode, as I call it. When the phone rings, I'm usually bathing, feeding, tending to a thirst, a hunger, an argument and so on and so on. I'm trying to break free of the hold. A tad different than writer mode, I suppose.

  2. From time to time I lapse into "let's start a massive project before company comes" mode. It's not pretty - and I am a force to be reckoned with.

I decided to paint the kitchen, including all of the kitchen cupboards a couple of weeks before Christmas. I decided to attack and organize our basement prior to my daughter's fifth birthday party. I recently dug out a huge garden bed from the road up to our house, across the front of and around the side of the house, prior to a recent visit from my mother-in-law. It's a surprise that N hasn't left me yet. ;)

  3. Okay, laugh if you want (my family jokes about it big time), but if I'm doing any serious cooking I enter "Don't touch me in the kitchen" mode. I offer no explaination and I'm not like that otherwise -- just in the kitchen.

  4. I love when the energy is flowing and the words demand to be written. So often I write in any mood, any location, at any time. Most of my writing is by duty. I love the creative rushes though. I think I bark a lot when that's happening, "Don't bother me, I'm writing." Still I have to stop to do this or that essential duty. It's frustrating...but now it's style. I hold that thought while I feed the family or finish another important task. The worst feeling is when I want to write...my mind is holdin the thought... and I have to grade papers! Those two tasks are not compatible.

  5. I'm on a packing mode right now. We're leaving for Grand Teton in the morning. I can't wait!

  6. Lately I've been in a "dazed" mode. NO, I'm not on any drugs, so quit thinking that. The summer is just going by faster than I want it to :(. A million activities a day, and they all seem like they're over before they've started.

  7. I'm with you. When I'm writing a book, especially if I'm on the home stretch, I don't want anything or anyone to get in my way. It's a magic act if you have kids, but it can be done. And if you don't have distractions (other than life and that kind of trivia) then take advantage of being in the zone.
