The First Question of the Day

So when I was in high school, my Jersey Girls and I used to get together and play Questions. On scraps of paper, we'd scrawl things like, "If you could order a pizza with anything on it right now, what would you get?" Or "Who's your ultimate prom date?" Then we'd crumple them up and toss them in a pile. One by one, we'd answer them, usually in Margie's bedroom, late at night by candlelight.

Night after night after night.

Then, when I moved to Hollywood and lived with 10 girls between two houses, (Melrose Place minus the murders and explosions) we played questions poolside. Instead of focusing on boys and late munchies, our questions shifted to things like, "What will you do if you don't make it as an author/actor/singer?"

And just recently, my sister in-law, Hurricane, (her name is worth a whole other posting) included me in a daily email blast among her co-workers called, "The Question of the Day." That round of questions dissected all things politics and world news.

The game is obviously timeless. So, in an effort to write daily and exercise my right to poke at your brains, I've decided to borrow shamelessly and create this blog, "The Question of the Day."

I think it's only right to start on a positive note, so here's my question: "What's the best thing that happened to you (or that you made happen) today?"

My answer is this blog.

Now who wants to go first?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. The best thing to happen to me today was getting a sack of CD's in the mail from Meliiissa. All kinds of good stuff I've never heard of before!
Music always makes me happy, much like Suzanne's meatballs!!

  2. I got some writing done, even though I didn't think I was going to happen.

Good to see you finally blogging, Suzanne! You picked the same pattern I have on mine, only yours is in cooler colors (did you customize it? I don't remember that choice...).

Have fun! I'll be sure to stop by often.

P.S. You on MySpace yet? I keep a blog there, too. : )

  8. Wow! Check out all the good things happening for everyone today. I like what Todd wrote about living through others today. Let's do that. So far, collectively we've got music, a clean house, completed writing, brownies, BBQ, great publicity for a friend, a phone call to mom and TWO plugs for my cooking.

    I'd call that a success. Thanks! :)

  9. The best part of my day was when I called my daughter early this morning and my 5 year old granddaughter answered with a cheery "Hi Grandma!"
That started my day with a smile.

  12. Every night when we put our 5 yr old daughter, April, to bed, we each discuss our "favorite part of the day" (thanks to Dora the Explorer). So this is very similar!!! So, the best thing that happened to me today, or my favorite part of the day, is when I helped my 2 daughters paint the gifts they are making for family and friends for Christmas. Paige, who is only 2 1/2 yrs old, was saying "painty, painty, paint" and "mixy, mixy, mix" with the brush and it was just so cute. And I am glad we got through 6 of them because it usually takes them a long time. So I have a feeling of accomplishment!!

  13. My best moment was sprinting down the street in the dark, cool dusk of evening. The little endorphine high made my day. Connecting with you and others on this blog ain't so shabby either! Thanks, Suz, hi!

  14. I know it sounds corny, but my daughter running up and hugging me the moment I walk in the door makes the miserable day I had at work go away.

(Nice to see you, by the way!)

  15. The absolute best part of my day, week, and month (so far) is flying to Denver today to see my family and friends. It's cold here and a pleasant change from Houston. The second best thing is hearing from Suzanne!

  16. The best thing that happened to me today was working with people in three states to fix broken juvenile justice systems so all kids can have a fair shot when they do stupid things and get arrested. I am fortunate enough to get to do this every day. :)

The other best thing was talking to a man in Louisiana and hearing the tears as he spoke about our president-elect, compared with the deep South he grew up in in the 1950's.

  17. After, what was quite honestly, a terrifying day, 2 things top my list of the best things. First, I saw my healthy little one moving around in my belly. Second, was the look on Stella and AJ's faces when they were finally able to see me at the hospital. Took my breath away!
Yup, hospital. Long story but the baby and I are fine!

  18. I just got out of long hot shower and put on a nice clean pair of pjs, sat down to check my email and what do I see? An old dear friend asking me what is the best thing that has happened to me today....well, that is the best thing that has happened to me today...to hear from you. I love you and I am so proud of you!

  20. Suzanne, besides getting this email from my hot east coast friend, the best thing to happen to me today was being stuck in a ridicules amount of traffic. I said to myself screw this, after waiting for a light to change 5x's without moving, I parked my car on the side of the road. Only being, 2-3 miles from home, I walked and enjoyed my extended neighborhood, relishing in the fact that "other" cars were still bumper to bumper. What a great night, did some exercise and no waiting in traffic. I think your question tomorrow should ask, " Th worst thing that happened to you today" , and I would reply getting up at 6:00 and walking 2 plus miles to get my car! xo

  21. Today, I got my very first bowling ball. That may not seem like anything special to some, but I like to bowl and I'm becoming increasingly bad ass at it.

I am now about to heat up some of "Sooooozanne's Delicious Mac & Cheese"ⓒ. If I would have waited a few moments longer to answer this question, maybe the best part of my day would have been different. :)

  22. The best thing that happened to me today is that, after the root canal yesterday, the pain in my mouth is sooooo much less than it has been for over 2 weeks now.

And my wife and I are still very much devoted to each other whether or not we're really married.
