Question of the Day #6

The other night, I was out with my friends, Helen, Kristine and her little people, O and Z, who are 6 and 3 respectively. We ate pizza while the girls wiggled all over us and our booth. Then they chased after our friend Stacie, who happened to be that night's waitress. All this before Mommy played "Barbie Girl" on the jukebox and the dance party started.

Their energy was adorable, electrifying and exhausting. They made the Energizer Bunny look like a slow poke. As I silently said prayers for Mommy Kristine, we discussed the fact that those girls can stay up all night.

"Maybe it's because they were born in the middle of the night. I was born at night too. And I can stay up all night," Kristine said.

"You think that has anything to do with it?" I asked.

"Well, when we were you born?" Kristine asked.

"I was born the morning. Maybe that's why I can't stay up past 10:00."

Helen elbowed me.

"That is," I cleared my throat, "When I'm not out with Helen."

"What about you, Helen?" Kristine asked.

"Morning."

"Well, that explains your cheerful morning sunshineyness." I grinned, fully knowing that although we both do our best work in the morning, the cheerful sunshineyness only revs up after breakfast.

"Explains yours too."

So, does it? We want to know. Before we launch an official scientific experiment, we figure we should do a little survey. Are people who were born at night "night owls"? And are people who are born in the morning, morning people?

xoxo,
Suzanne

  1. Here's one for ya. My parents almost didn't make it to the hospital on time. I was in a rush to get out and start life.

And I'm still goin'!! I love running around like a mad woman.

I busted out in the morning, which may explain why I wake up ready to go. Poppin' out fast may explain why I don't wanna stop!!

  2. No correlation here, and I'll second, third, and fourth that with my kids, but interesting theory. ; )

  3. I was born 10 minutes after midnight. I don't think I have been awake that late since! Well, maybe just a few times : )

  4. My brother - born at 6:30am - pops out of bed, ready to go. AT least he did when we were kids. Can't swear to it now.

Me? I was born somewhere around 9:30pm and though I get up early because the dogs say so, my brain doesn't start functioning until about 10.

Right now it's after 12:30 at night. I have to get up at 6:30am and I'm not in bed yet.

  5. I was born in the afternoon, and I'm a night owl. My son was born in the middle of the night, and he's an early bird. My twins were born mid-afternoon, and they're also early birds. Which screws up both your theory and my sleep schedule.

    I'm sorry. :(

  6. YES - I'm in the blog group!

So uh-oh I was born at 12:30 in the afternoon which I guess explains why I'm not a morning person or an after-midnight kind of gal, and why I think there should be National nap time everyday at 3pm. It's really a wonder I get anything done. :)

  7. This is going to sound so pathetically sad but nobody seems to remember the time of day I was born. A simple statement that speaks a thousand words. boo hoo. : )

  8. I can't offer much support for your theory, either. I was born at 11:25 p.m. Besides knowing some of their names, I can't tell you the time slot or station of any late night TV shows except perhaps Jay Leno. My sister talks about him whenever we drive past NBC studios. I've always been a morning person though I pretty much resent having to get up at 5:00 a.m. for work. That's not morning, I protest. It's still dark outside! But I wake up pretty easily, anyway.
